Structural Design in Bytes
As a structural engineer, I find that it's hard to find connections between my hobbies and my practice. Having the task of developing the design of a structural beam using Python really highlighted the close relationship between the two.
Simple Span Beam Design in Python
One of the ways I have developed a connection is through an automation in Python of a simple span beam design. Using the AISC Specification for Steel Buildings, I have coded in basic steel design checks. While it is limited, it can give a good gut feeling of a type of shape for a specific loading condition.
